Government doctors protest for PG quota, pay hike

“Since the beginning of the month, we have been holding democratic protests. On Monday, more than 50 of us from the association held a demonstration with our eyes closed with a black cloth,” said Dr A Ramalingam, state organising secretary, SDPGA.
“National Eligibility cum Entrance test (NEET) Bill passed by the assembly stated that 50% of state quota of government seats should be reserved for the candidates in government service. We are therefore asking the state government to get the President’s assent or to pressurise the Medical Council of India (MCI) to make some resolutions,” he stated, adding, “The ideal solution would be the MCI bringing an amendment. However, without pressure from the state government, it is not possible.”
The association will continue its demonstrations until their demands are met and will hold a candle light vigil at the Madras Medical College on Tuesday evening.
