It’s singles all the way this Valentine’s Day

To all the soup boys, soup girls (read single) and #foreveralones in the area, it’s time to pull yourself up and dust off that depression. This Valentine’s Day, many eateries, bars and other places have come up with attractive offers on those who walk in solo.

For instance, Scooped Ice Cream Bar in Velachery has a special offer for the single ladies. “Get one ice cream free for every ice cream you purchase at Scooped,” says a post on their Facebook page. “Offer valid only when you come alone or with a group of girls to avail this offer!” However, the offer also comes with a warning that the phone number of couples caught fooling them will be given to the notorious love vigilantes.
The Leather Bar at The Park is hosting an Anti-Valentine’s Day party where unlimited select beverages will be served to the singles in the house for Rs 1,999. The digital space too has something to offer.
Brownie Heaven in Royapettah has created an event called ‘Propose To Our Brownies’. They have even created tinder-like profile for their brownies and it’s for the singles to choose ‘the one’. The post asks people to propose to their favourite brownie in the ‘comments’ section and win gift hampers.
Many singles have posted their singles message with the hashtag #pyaarekdhokahai (#loveisalie) on Instagram. In fact, they are organising an event called shouting “Pyaar Ek Dhoka Hai”. Singles across colleges in the city are also looking forward to V-Day - and have a celebration of their own planned.
Several Facebook events have been created online - by students of colleges such as SRM University and Anna University asking single members to assemble together. “Actually, several friends across colleges in the city - mostly engineering - have created a Whatsapp group, and we all planned this. Many colleges are doing this individually too,” said Srinisha, a student at one such institution in the city.
There are groups of single women getting together to have a day out around town. S Kavitha, an ad professional in Chennai, said, “I was just talking to a friend when she told me about several other women who were planning to spend a day out on Feb 14 and treat themselves to a brunch, movie and spa session together, and make new friends in the process. I joined up immediately.”
