Cooler nights return for next 3 days
The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted cooler nights in most parts of the city for the next two days.
Chennai
According to weathermen at RMC, a cool spell is likely in most parts of state, including Chennai. North Tamil Nadu could have fairly cold night in the interior areas as places like Vellore, Tirupathur, Arakkonam and Thiruttani could see temperatures around 14 to 15 degree Celsius in the next few days.
“There is a high possibility of some of the Chennai suburbs possibly seeing temperatures around 18 degree celsius or slightly lower too.
Numerical models indicate isolated coastal areas near Chennai could see nearly three degrees below normal temperatures on Wednesday night with further dips expected on Thursday and Friday,” said a weatherman.
With Easterlies going through a weak phase it’s time for the land breeze to dominate during late nights and early mornings.
This will result in appreciable temperature drops early in the morning along the coastal areas of North Tamil Nadu, the weather expert added.
K Srikanth, a weather of Chennayil Oru Mazhaikkalam, said, “The early morning 5.30 temperatures indicate both Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam observatories trending a degree or so lower than on Tuesday and possibly heading for the coolest nights during the second fortnight of January.”
Satellite imageries are consistent about Chennai and surrounding areas seeing nearly three to four degrees lower than normal night time temperatures over the next few nights and next three to four days are likely to see further drops in the temperatures, he added.
