A walk in city to support victims of domestic abuse

In a plea to support domestic violence victims in the city, the All Ladies League (ALL) in Chennai is organising a walk, for both men and women, called, ‘Walk a mile in her Shoes’. The initiative is aimed at reducing harassment against women across Chennai, with the proceeds going to actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s ‘Save Shakti’ campaign, which rehabilitates victims of violence.

“The ALL-Chennai Chapter has been active for a couple of years now, though we officially started hosting events only from September last year.

Being a group that stands for women empowerment, we really wanted to put together something that would aid in this movement – as it is the age of ‘Me Too’ and ‘Time’s Up’. So, we came up with this initiative, which would aid in this challenge,” says core member at ALL, Sakina Ansari.

Ansari adds, “There still is a long way to go – especially when it comes to educating boys and men in the city. We hope to hold more such events regularly. This walk will be a mile-long from the Westin Hotel at Velachery on February 11.”

Varalaxmi who has done her bit to reduce sexual harassment in the Tamil film industry with her Save Shakti initiative, has come on board to add more awareness for the event, as well as use the funds to help survivors of domestic abuse.
