Panchaloha idol found in abandoned well at Ponneri
A group of boys who was fishing on Sunday in an abandoned well near Ponneri was in for a surprise catch – a threefoot tall panchaloha idol.
Chennai
The well is located on a private land in Kondanthurai village and was shrouded by bushes until recently. After the heath was cleared by the owners, the well became visible and became a fishing spot. A few boys, who were fishing on Sunday, threw the net in the well, hoping to get some catch. When the net got stuck, they pulled it with force. They were taken aback as an idol came along with the net. They immediately informed the villagers, who took the idol to a nearby temple, cleaned it and even worshipped it. The Krishna idol with four hands and playing flute in a standing position had its fingers cut and the flute was missing.
On information, Village Administrative Officer Sanjivi Perumal rushed to spot and examined the idol. After confirming that it was a panchaloha idol, he handed it over at the Tahsildar office. Since there is no Krishna temple in and around the locality, it is suspected that some idol thieves might have dumped the idol into the well to take it later.
