With the completion of this section, the entire Corridor-II (Green Line) of Chennai Metro Phase-I Project would become active. CMRL officials said that regular services would begin by March end.
According to officials, the Railway Safety Commissioner will inspect the trial run on this stretch in February and there is a high possibility for operating regular services by March end. As far as feeder service is concerned, the CMRL has already approached Metropolitan Transport Corporation and a small bus (S 96) is already being operated once in 20 minutes. A senior CMRL official said, “We hope that the stretch between Nehru park and Central railway station receives good response among commuters. Based on the number of passengers, the feeder service will gradually go up.”
It may be noted that the Phase-I of the project had two lines- Blue Line and Green Line. The first stretch (Blue Line), which was opened to the public in June 2015 was elevated, and that ran from Koyambedu to Alandur.
Similarly, the second stretch of this phase, from Little Mount to Chennai airport and to St Thomas Mount beyond Alandur (Green Line), was thrown open to the public in 2016.
