Kolathur heist: Nathuram, aides brought to Chennai
Nathuram, the main suspect in the Kolathur jewellery heist, and his associates, were brought to Chennai by a special team from Chennai City Police early on Friday.
Chennai
The team led by additional commissioner (North) H M Jayaram brought Nathuram, Deepak Choudhry and Dauram by flight from Jaipur at around 1.10 am, and presented them before a magistrate who remanded them in Puzhal central prison till February 9.
Sources said the city police team that is probing the case is expected to seek his custody for detailed interrogation on Monday.
The police here need to question Nathuram in the 3.5 kg Kolathur gold heist. As he reportedly confessed to Rajasthan police that he sold the jewels in Chennai itself, police will have to take him to those who bought it to recover the jewels. On the run from Chennai Police after the robbery, Nathuram was finally nabbed by Rajasthan police on January 13 from Gujarat.
By then, the hunt for him had suffered a serious setback due to the death of inspector Periyapandian after being fired up on by his colleague, inspector Munisekar, at Pali, Rajasthan, during the melee to catch him on December 13.
Rajasthan police have arrested his wife Rani and aide Dinesh Choudhury, while the team from here arrested his father Chennaram and relatives Ellaram, Shankar Lal and Dauram in Rajasthan.
The jewellery heist happened on November 16 in Kolathur when Nathuram and his associates drilled a hole in the building and escaped with 3.5 kg gold from the jewellery shop when it was closed for lunch.
