College students protest bus fare hike, seek rollback
Four days after the bus fare hike was announced by the government, students of various colleges took to the streets to protest the increase at various places in Chennai and Kancheepuram on Tuesday morning.

Students claimed that the bus fare was doubled in many routes which affected the lives of common people. At 9 am, nearly 200 students from the Chengalpattu Government Law College staged a protest and blocked traffic on the Chennai–Tiruchy National Highway for nearly an hour.
Students of Pachaiyappa’s College for Men in Kancheepuram boycotted their classes to form a human chain in front of their college and raised slogans against the government for over two hours. In Chennai, 200 members of Students’ Federation of India staged a protest at KK Nagar bus depot for half an hour.Â
The Tamil Nadu government revised the bus fares recently that came into effect last Saturday. The increase in fares came after a week-long protest staged by the transport workers that had crippled the transport services across the state.
