Police said that the deceased attended a conference in the hotel on Friday and stayed in the same hotel that night.

Prima facie, it seems like she had consumed excess alcohol which led to her death, police said.

As she failed to respond to repeated knocks on her door, the hotel staff used a spare key to enter the room. They found her dead and informed the police. Her family members later told the police that she had drinking problems.

Police said that Swathi was a US returnee and stayed with her husband and two kids, aged 4 and 1 at Nagelkeni.

Quoting family members, the police said that Swathi was addicted to liquor. As her family advised Swathi against drinking too much, she booked rooms to drink.

On Friday night she had called up Anand and her mother to tell them that she had office work and would return only on Saturday morning. Her mother had asked her not to drink when she got a call from Swathi, police said.

“Last week as well, she had booked a room in a hotel in the neighbourhood and returned home after drinking,” police said, adding, there was no external injury marks on her body, but blood stains on her nose. Police found an empty rum bottle in the room. Quoting preliminary reports from the doctors, the police said she could have died of dehydration.
