Boy dies after ‘duck walk’ punishment
In a shocking incident, a class 10 student of an English medium government aided school in Perambur, who was made to do ‘duck walk’ for reporting late on Wednesday, died. The boy, M Narendar (16), was dropped at the school around 8.40 am by his father R Murali.

However, since it was 20 minutes late, Narendar and a few other students were made to do ‘duck walk’ around the school campus by teachers, said Murali.
Around 10 am, Murali got a call from the school that Narendar collapsed while standing in the prayer and that he was being taken to Kilpauk Medical College.
However, when he went there, he was told that Narendar had been taken to the Stanley Hospital.
After inquiring about what Narendar had for dinner on Tuesday night and breakfast on Wednesday morning, doctors in Stanley told Murali that his son Narendar had died.
It was Narendar’s classmates who told Murali that his son died after being forced to do duck walk as punishment at the Don Bosco Higher Secondary School.
After the boy’s body reached home following post-mortem examination in the afternoon, some students told Murali that his son was physically harassed in the name of punishment at the school.
Murali, along with a few other parents and neighbours, reached Thiru Vi Ka Nagar police station to lodge a complaint against the school administration.
However, the police allegedly refused to receive the complaint, which led to protests outside the school. After the school was also sieged by parents, a police team led by inspector rushed to the spot.
Don Bosco school headmaster was not available for his comment despite repeated attempts.
Narendar is the second child of Murali and Chithrapavai, who also have a college-going elder daughter.
Murali, who runs a welding shop service centre in Mannur near Ambattur, said that Narendar was a normal boy and did not have any medical complications. “I was told he even cried, unable to go through the punishment, but the teachers insisted that he should continue.
Suitable action should be taken against the school administration to ensure that another child do not face similar harassment in future,” Murali told DTNext.
Later in the evening, a police team visited the school and viewed the CCTV footage from the school premise. “If there is evidence of such fatal punishment, we would certainly take action against the school,” said police inspector Tamil Vanan.
