Five killed in road accidents
As many as five people were killed in three separate accidents during the late hours of Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

Police said two men were killed after a car rammed their two-wheeler on Tuesday morning at Melmaruvathur on Chennai – Tiruchy national highway. The deceased were identified as E Veerappan, a resident of Perunkaranai near Acharapakkam, and G Devakannu, a resident of Tindivanam. All the three were running pavement vendors and were proceeding to Melmaruvathur from Perunkaranai on a bike.Â
In another incident, two people, including the driver, died, while four others suffered injuries after the car in which they were travelling went out of control. The deceased were identified as Kamala, 65, a pedestrian and V Sundar Raja, 22, who was at the wheel. The accident happened when they were moving on Padapai- Vandalur road, one of the front tyres burst and the vehicle turned turtle and hit Kamala. Â
In the third incident, a 42-year-old man was killed and nine others were injuried after a van collided head on with a car near Tiruttani on Monday. The deceased Venkatesh, native of Vanagaram, had gone to Nagari in Andhra Pradesh to celebrate Pongal with three friends — Madhan, Saravanan and Manikandan — and were returning to Chennai in a car. When they were passing by Lakshmapuram, a tourist van coming from Chennai, collided head on with the car. In the impact, Venkatesh died on the spot, while his friends sustained injuries.
