Minister pushes for National Book status for Tirukkural
The state government was continuing to put pressure on the Centre to accord National Book status to the treatise ‘Tirukkural,’ penned by saint poet Thiruvalluvar, said minister K Pandiarajan.

“The government is continuing to pressurise the Centre to accord National Book status to Tirukkural,” said the Tamil official language and culture minister. He talking to reporters here after garlanding the statue of Tiruvalluvar, along with Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar on the occasion of Thiruvalluvar Day.
The government had also requested UNESCO to accord ‘world heritage status’ to Tirukkural, Pandiarajan added.
