Family of 4 ends life in Mayiladuthurai, son-in-law detained on abuse charge

K Saranya (22), daughter of Kannan (55) of Amir, Erattaikulam in Mayiladuthurai, was married to Vignesh (28) of Mayiladuthurai. The couple had a difference of opinion over dowry ever since they got married. Around two months ago, Saranya came to her parents home with some burns and did not return to Karur.

On Saturday morning, Vignesh came to her house and asked Saranya to follow him. But Saranya refused, following which Vignesh entered into a heated argument with Saranya and her parents in public. Upset over the quarrel, Saranya and her family members remained confined to their home. Since no movement was seen in the house, a few people and relatives broke open the door. They found Saranya, her father, mother Gunasundari (50) and sister Sukanya (20) hanging. Police have detained Vignesh. Further investigation is on.
