Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami told the House that a Special Officer would go into the impact of a proposed port at Kovalam in Kanniyakumari district, opposed by the locals.
The announcement follows a special call attention motion by DMK MLA S Austin (Kanniyakumari). He pointed to the fact that the fishermen were up against the project, which was relocated to Kanniyakumari. “Fishermen had expressed their apprehension over the constructions on the sea,” Austin added.
“The ground breaking for the commercial port proposed by the Centre at Kovalam slated for December 20 last year wascalled off following opposition from local fishermen.
However, another group of locals rallied for it,” Palaniswami said.
