Exclusive trauma centre to be set up at Chengalpattu GH
An exclusive Trauma centre, besides the existing trauma ward, is soon expected to come up at the Chengalpattu Government Hospital (CGH) under the Tamil Nadu Accident and Emergency Care Initiative (TAEI) of the National Health Mission.

While Tamil Nadu has the dubious distinction of having most number of Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) to its name, the need for all districts to be prepared with adequate facilities and staff to handle such cases is considered essential.
The TAEI programme was therefore started by the Health Department, under the NHM to reduce the RTA burden in the state. “It is aimed at minimising accident deaths and to reduce trauma-related complications. Under this programme we can keep a record of all the accident cases,” said Darez Ahmed, Director, NHM.
However, he said, that the initiative requires extensive training of nurses, which is being undertaken. Stating that the centre under the TAEI will be funded by the state NHM, Dean, CGH, Dr Usha Sadasivan said, “Rs 150 lakh has been sanctioned for the centre and the work for the same will be initiated soon.”
