Weekday schedule for suburban trains today
Southern Railway on Saturday withdrew the cancellation of suburban trains it had announced earlier for maintenance work in view of the ongoing bus strike. On Friday, Chennai Railway Division had announced suspension of MRTS services between Beach and Velachery from 9.35 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Following the cancellation of the line blocks, normal suburban services were operated in MMC –Tiruvallur/Arakkonam, MMCGummidipundi / Sullurupetta, MRTS, and Chennai-Beach-Tambaram/ Chengalpattu on Saturday.
However, the line block announced on Chennai Central -Gummidipoondi sector due to Attipattu foot over bridge block from 12.20 am to 5.20 am on Sunday would go on as usual.
The division has also decided to maintain weekday services instead of reduced weekend services in Tambaram and MRTS suburban sector to accommodate extra rush due to the bus strike on Sunday. About 670 services would be operated on January 7, against the 602 services usually provided on Sundays. Likewise, MRTS trains would run at 15-minute frequency instead of Sunday’s 20-minute interval.
However, there would be no ladies’ specials.
Owing to the bus strike induced spurt in passenger traffic, Chennai division had handled an additional 1.92 lakh and recorded a revenue rise of 13.69 lakh during January 4 and 5, compared to the revenue made on the same days of last year.
