Not scaling up water supply till October: Metro Water
Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewage Board (CMWSSB) is unlikely to scale up the daily supply to the city to the original requirement of 830mld (million liters per day). CMWSSB on Thursday admitted that it would maintain the supply at existing 650mld till October 2018.

Amid fears that the city would face a difficult summer owing to insufficient rainfall from the north-east monsoon, CMWSSB clarified, “It would ensure that the present quantum of water supply at 650 mld is continued till October 2018. Hence, the residents need not panic on the false propaganda about the water scarcity in Chennai in the upcoming summer.”
Comparing the current (5.5 tmcft) joint storage level of the four city reservoirs with last year’s, CMWSSB referenced the brimming Veeranam lake, a considerable rise in the city’s groundwater table and receipt of 200mld from desalination plants at Nemmeli and Minjur and said the present supply of 650mld was being maintained by tapping 170mld from Veeranam lake, 200mld from desalination plants and the remaining 280mld from the four reservoirs.
