Dinakaran loyalist Vetrivel gets bail
In a big reprieve to the disqualified AIADMK legislator and TTV Dinakaran loyalist P Vetrivel, the Madras High Court on Thursday granted him conditional bail. Vetrivel had moved the court seeking anticipatory bail fearing arrest in the release of a video clip of the late former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa ahead of the RK Nagar bypoll.

Justice AD Jagadish Chandira granted him the bail after directing him to appear before the Anna Square police station every day at 10.30 am for the next two weeks.
On December 20, a day before the RK Nagar by-election, Vetrivel, released the video. On the same day, based on a complaint made by the Election Commission (EC), a criminal case was registered against him for poll code violation. This apart, another case was registered by the Anna Square police based on a complaint from Justice A Arumughaswamy Commission, probing the causes of Jayalalithaa’s death.
Apprehending arrest, Vetrivel moved the principal sessions court, on December 22. But as the sessions court dismissed his plea, he approached the HC. Vetrivel submitted that the he got the video footage from VK Sasikala, through her nephew TTV Dinakaran in February 2017.
