Education department highlights options beyond medicine, engineering
Students often find it confusing to zero-in on the courses after finishing their Class 12, resulting in most of them going for the traditional courses such as engineering and medicine, without exploring other options. In an attempt to address this gap, the Education department has come out with an elaborate list of courses that Class 10 and 12 students can choose from.

Students often find it confusing to zero-in on the courses after finishing their Class 12, resulting in most of them going for the traditional courses such as engineering and medicine, without exploring other options. In an attempt to address this gap, the Education department has come out with an elaborate list of courses that Class 10 and 12 students can choose from.
After finishing Class 12, there are over 30 national-level competitive exams that students can take. Apart from the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), students can also write the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), etc. Instead of the standard MBBS, students can opt for courses like Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS), Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT).
There are around 16 courses that are available in ‘Allied Health Science’ and eight options when it comes to paramedical courses. The list also includes a dual degree and integrated courses that students can choose from. The School Education department has also listed a host of options for engineering, humanities and management aspirants. Interesting courses like BSc Aircraft Maintenance, Anthropology, Food Technology, etc. are also mentioned.
School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan said that there are many options for Class 10 students as well. For instance, they can opt for polytechnic diploma, paramedic diploma. They can go to industrial training institutes or choose courses such as 3D animation, air ticketing or toy making, which have plenty of job opportunities.

Talking about NEET coaching centres, Education minister KA Sengottaiyan said, “Around 312 NEET coaching centres will be opened by January15, for which 75,000 students have registered. We have also requested the CM to provide 1 lakh laptops for students who will be writing plus 2 exams next year. We are hoping that it will be approved soon.”

In paramedics: Dialysis technician, dental technician, medical records technician, x-ray technician, etc
In allied health science: B. Pharm, BSc Nursing, BSc Cardiac Care technology.
In management: Auction management, event management, export management, etc
Commerce: B. Com Taxation and procedure, bank management, etc
Other interesting UG courses: Aircraft maintenance, anthropology, food technology, etc.
