College student who slapped cop held

The accused, Manikandan, was remanded based on a complaint by N Maheshwaranpillai, a police constable attached to Kumaran Nagar police. The incident took place around 5.30 pm on Saturday at RV Nagar where Maheswaranpillai had been posted as beat officer.

In his complaint, Maheshwaranpillai had stated that he tried to stop three men riding a Honda Shine bike after noticing that it was a violation of traffic rules. The trio tried to escape but fell into a small pit after losing balance. One of the three identified as Manikandan approached Maheshwaranpillai and started verbally abusing him.

 As the argument grew, Manikandan slapped Maheshwaranpillai in full public view. When he tried to escape, passers-by chased and caught him. Based on Maheshwaranpillai’s complaint, Manikandan was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Incident created a flutter in the locality and a video of the incident went viral.
