The man, identified as Nikhil Mintra, runs a restaurant in Nungambakkam.

He reached the hospital around 12.30 am with the friend who had a leg injury. Since he could not wait for long, he left behind the car for her.

Police said that Mintra wanted to take a call taxi to reach home, but since he couldn’t get any, took an ambulance parked in the hospital premises without anyone’s knowledge.

Later, he asked his driver to take the ambulance back to the hospital.

The driver, however, parked it in another branch of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the authorities, after noticing that one of their ambulances was missing, lodged a complaint with Thousand Lights police station.

While the ambulance was later traced to the other branch, police picked up Mintra for interrogation.

He is said to have admitted that he was under the influence of alcohol and submitted a written apology to the hospital.

Since the hospital authorities withdrew their complaint after their ambulance was traced, no case was registered against the businessman.
