Amid high voltage campaigns for the RK Nagar bypoll, political parties wooed church-goers for gathering votes on Sunday morning.

AIADMK candidate E Madhusudhanan along with ministers and party functionaries met people who came out of a Church after completing prayer in New Washermenpet and sought support for AIADMK appealing to them to cast their votes to ‘Two Leaves’ symbol. Later, they continued campaigns in the streets around the same locality.
Similarly, other candidates and independents focused on the Church-goers and met them in various parts of the constituency. DMK candidate Marudhu Ganesh, supporters of sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dinakaran and the BJP candidate made door to door visits in the constituency.
“With only ten days left for RK Nagar bypoll, we needed to campaign in a hurried manner and so, we are visiting people both on the streets and houses. We know that Christians will usually go to Church for Sunday’s prayer and we visited them to support our candidate,” said an AIADMK functionary.
Meanwhile, residents in the constituency, who had been complaining about civic issues like drinking water scarcity and overflowing sewage are now happy, as the officials have already taken up such works.
“Earlier, we faced severe drinking water problem overflowing sewage onto the streets, as officials neglected us. However, things are opposite now, as drinking water is being supplied properly,” said K Rajendran, a resident of New Washermenpet.
