Gold worth Rs 53 lakhs seized at Chennai airport

Customs officials at Chennai airport thwarted the attempt of three men to smuggle in 1.8 kg of gold worth Rs 53 lakh from different countries in the last two days. They seized 100 gm of gold worth 2.8 lakh from Sri Lankan national Mohamed Thasleem (32), 947 gm of gold worth Rs 27.90 lakh gold hidden in underwear from Suresh Rajaraman and 795 gm of gold worth Rs 22.80 lakh from Sirajudheen Neerkatti. The arrested persons arrived in Chennai airport from Colombo, Singapore and Doha respectively, said sources.
