The special team led by inspector Charles boarded an Indigo flight at 7.40 pm in Mumbai and reached Chennai around 10 pm.

Earlier on Saturday, Assistant Commissioner Kannan went to Mumbai to guide the team to bring Dashwanth safe after producing him at a magistrate court in Mumbai to obtain a prisoner-on-transfer warrant.

He escaped from police custody on Thursday and caught again on Friday near Kala Ghoda. On Saturday, at least an hour before the team reached Chennai, three police vehicles with tinted glass panels were kept ready at the airport. Police have obtained three days custody of the accused after which he will be produced in court.

While Dashwanth was first nabbed in Sembur under Tardeo police station limit on December 6, he escaped from the police custody the next day at Vile Parle (East) and a CCTV footage showing him running away with handcuffs from a restaurant was also released by police. A complaint was registered against him by the Vile Parle police for escaping from custody.

When he was caught again in Kala Ghoda with the help of specific inputs, he had shaved off his beard and was wearing a fullsleeve shirt to hide the cuffs. Dashwanth is an accused in the rape and murder of a-seven-year-old and a suspect in the murder of his own mother.
