Vishal’s nomination likely to be reconsidered by EC

This could be a face saver for the EC as well since allegations on scrutiny process being rigged has attracted media glare as well. The actor too had taken to the social media making hues and cries of ‘injustice’ meted out to him, while he also tweeted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind seeking ‘justice’.

The time for withdrawal ends at 3 pm after which the final list of candidates in the fray would be published. A highly placed source from the EC said that there is a precedent for reconsideration of a rejected nomination in Bargur constituency in Krishnagiri district.

The official observed that they had forwarded the petition filed before the Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni to the EC.

“The possibility of reconsidering the nomination will be limited, and in tune with the directions issued by the ECI,” a senior official noted. If the ECI issues such orders, the nomination will be taken up for fresh scrutiny in the morning, and will be accepted if the objections raised are cleared by the candidate.
