Auto-driver held for abetting wife’s suicide
A 35-year-old woman set herself ablaze after a family quarrel in Mylapore on Monday. The deceased Bhuvaneshwari was a home maker and mother of two children, while her husband Angamuthu is an auto-driver.

Police said that Angamuthu would often return home drunk and pick up a fight with Bhuvaneshwari, suspecting her fidelity. On Monday night during another round of fight, Bhuvaneshwari poured kerosene over her body and threatened to set herself ablaze.
Instead of preventing her, Angamuthu gave her the match box to do so. After Bhuvaneshwari set herself ablaze, Angamuthu locked the house, which is on the Masoodhi Street, from outside and fled.
Neighbours on hearing her cries rescued her and sent her to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Mylapore police have registered a case and arrested Angamuthu on charges of abetting his wife’s suicide. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
Security guard hangs self at DGQA quarters
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old security guard, posted at the Directorate General of Quality Assurance staff quarters in Meenambakkam, committed suicide in his room on Monday. The deceased, Tamilarasu, is a native of Vellore and was posted at the DGQA quarters six months ago. He stayed with two others in a room in the quarters, said police.
On Monday night, he did not report for duty on time and the room’s door was locked from within. When broken open, he was found hanging. His body was sent to Chromepet Government Hospital for post-mortem. Meenambakkam police, who have registered a case.
