EC permission must for door-to-door canvassing
Campaigners in RK Nagar would have to get permission from the candidate as well as the Election Commission to go on door-to-door canvassing for votes. It is being permitted between 9 am and 5 pm only, said the sources in the Election Commission.

The campaigners are liable to be booked for poll code violation in case of any deviation, they added.
The expenses incurred in individual party campaigning for a common candidate will be factored into the candidate’s poll expense account while one can spend a maximum of Rs 28 lakh for electioneering. State unit of the EC is learnt to have asked for 5 more companies of Para Military Forces while the Centre had already sanctioned as many as 20 companies of the force.
“We are also monitoring the social media being used for campaign and the same is being recorded. Similarly, online payment services such as PayTM both outside and inside of the constituency and mobile recharges,” the official said.
“As many as 196 CCTV cameras will be installed in the poll-bound RK Nagar constituency and would be operational from December 7 onwards. Nearly, 18 static surveillance and flying squads are operating in the constituency while the number will be increased to 61 teams gradually akin to the rescinded bypoll process,” the source said.
Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan, who spoke to the media, said that they have already fixed half of the proposed strength of cameras and the rest would be fixed in a couple of days. “The cameras would beam its footage live to the Control Room in the Corporation. The monitoring officers can dispatch a special party to tackle any situation, while the same footage would be saved and can be retrieved if need be,” he said.
