Singer Aruna Sairam’s website hacked
Barely days into the December Margazhi season, one of its biggest draws – noted Carnatic performer Aruna Sairam – faced some problems on Saturday, after her official website was reportedly hacked by unknown miscreants.
Chennai
Aruna, a veteran vocalist who is also a recipient of the Padma Shri, suddenly realised on Sunday morning that her website – arunasairam.org – was hacked. Fans logging onto it to check out her programme listings for the busy season ahead were in for a rude shock as the home page featured pictures of buildings being blown up and children crying.
The hackers titled themselves ‘7rsh’ along with a detailed brief of their intent – to apparently shed light on the mindless violence against children, women and the elderly across the world who had been massacred in conflict zones.
While the issue did take some time to be resolved, by Sunday evening, the singer had contacted her web developers and the website was back to its normal functioning– showing an updated list of Aruna’s upcoming concerts and the sabhas she would be performing at.
It remains to be seen who the hackers were and if the vocalist was a random target of their wrongdoing or singled out for a reason. Sources said that Aruna is likely to file a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime wing of the city police.
