Senior DMK leader Durai Murugan said here on Sunday that the chances of his party’s victory in the December 21 bypoll to the RK Nagar assembly segment were bright.
Chennai
Speaking to reporters at Coimbatore airport, he said that MDMK’s decision to extend support to the DMK would be welcomed as that would also strengthen the party to win the seat held by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
On cyclone relief
He wanted to know whether the state government was taking any steps to provide relief in the cyclone-hit Kanniyakumari district.
The DMK strong man alleged that the state government was busy erecting banners and cutouts and had no time for relief measures.
In RK Nagar assembly constituency, DMK’s N Marudhu Ganesh is pitted against E Madhusudhanan of the ruling mainstream AIADMK.
Rival AIADMK leader TTV Dinakaran is also in the fray.
DMK’s allies Congress and IUML have already extended their support to the main opposition party. Besides, parties including the CPI, CPM and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi have declared their support to the DMK in the upcoming by-election.
