    History-sheeter hacked to death in broad daylight

    In a second daylight murder in a span of 15 days, a 24-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death in the busy Thambu Chetty street in Parry’s Corner on Wednesday evening, by a rival gang.

    The deceased was identified as Viji, who has a number of cases pending against him in Kasimedu police station. The six-member gang brutally hacked him to death in full public view during business hours. Two weeks ago, history sheeter Jeeva, was hacked to death in a similar way in Tondiarpet.

    Police said that Viji had come to have lunch at an eatery on Thambu Chetty street near the George Town Magistrate court and was surrounded by a group of men when he was about to leave. When he tried to escape, the gang chased him and hacked him with lethal weapons, before fleeing the spot. The CCTV footage retrieved from the street shows that the murderers confront him while he is walking by on the pavement. When he tries to run, one of them obstruct him, causing him to fall.

    They follow him into a small opening between the buildings and a few seconds later, they casually walked out. A man in a red shirt is seen hiding the machete in his trousers, before all of them escape from the scene. 

    With severe injuries to his head, shoulder and hand, Viji was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to injuries within hours. Muthialpet police have registered a case and conducted an inquiry in Kasimedu to ascertain the motive for the murder and also to identify the murderers.
