Boy who set himself ablaze dies
The 12-year-old school boy, who set himself ablaze after his parents allegedly reprimanded him for being irregular to school, died at Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital on Wednesday.

The boy, Kamesh, is a Class 7 student of Ramakrishna Higher Secondary School in Padunelli village in Kancheepuram district. His father Kanniappan is an EB employee residing at Agaram village in Baluchettychathiram. Since Kamesh was irregular to school, Kanniappan and his wife Varalakshmi scolded him on Monday evening. However, since he refused to go to school on Tuesday morning, they allegedly beat him.Â
Upset over this, Kamesh went to the terrace of the house, poured kerosene and set himself on fire. Hearing his cries, his parents rushed to the terrace and doused the fire. He was immediately rushed to Kancheepuram Government Hospital, from where he was shifted to Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital. He succumbed to burns on Wednesday.
