Two press club members, cartoonist Bala booked

Nearly two weeks after Madras High Court stayed the complaint against cartoonist Bala over his caricature depicting the Chief Minister in a bad light, a fresh complaint was registered against him and two Chennai Press Club office-bearers at Triplicane on Tuesday.

The FIR copy of the complaint available with DT Next says that it was registered suo motu after a sub-inspector noticed the caricature being erected in such a way that will disrupt the traffic and create nuisance to public. The two others booked in the case under the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention) of Disfigurement Act, 1959, include Press Club office-bearers Bharathi Thamizhan and Azadhullah.

Meanwhile, a protest has been announced against the fresh case that will take place in the same Press Club premises at 10.30 am on Wednesday. Bala uploaded the cartoon days after a man and his wife set themselves ablaze along with their two kids at the Tirunelveli Collector’s office over usury harassment.

Bala, who was arrested on November 5 after a complaint was filed by Tirunelveli District Collector Sandeep Nanduri, was released on bail by a court a day later.
