Burglars loot 57 sovereigns, Rs 5 lakh in Chennai
Burglars broke open the door of a textiles shop owner at Kondithope and escaped with 57 sovereigns of jewels and Rs 5 lakh on Saturday.
Chennai
The victim Heeraram’s family was not in town and he had locked the house in the third floor of the building on Sundara Mudhali Street before leaving for his shop at Flower Bazaar.
However, when he returned in the evening, he was shocked to see the door broken open and things strewn around inside. He checked the bureau only to find the cash and jewels stolen. Based on his complaint, Seven Wells police have registered a case and are collecting the CCTV footage from nearby shops to nab the burglars. Police suspect that burglars must have monitored the movements of Heeraram’s family before executing the heist. The neighbours are also being questioned whether they noticed some unfamiliar persons in the building.
It may be noted that gang who drilled the roof of a jewellery shop, escaped with 3.5 kg gold and silver articles from a Kolathur shop recently.
