Police defend their decision on Goondas Act
Police on their part have been vehemently defending the Goondas Act detentions. “We detain suspects under the Goondas Act after various levels of screening. How can you expect the government to take no action against Thirumurugan Gandhi, who had been voicing his anti-national sentiments where ever he spoke? When contacted, Sembium police clarified that Thomas is not a MBBS doctor, but only an embryologist.
“We have booked cases against him purely based on complaints. He was facing problems in running the clinic without the support of Dr Ramya, after she left. Then he tried to bring her back. When she refused to re-join CFC, he threatened her and despatched a gang to attack her,” the investigation officer claimed.
When contacted, Dr Ramya said that she was never a professional threat to Thomas. “He is PhD doctor. After completing his masters in Biotechnology, he started the fertility centre.
He used the services of the MBBS doctors employed by him,” Dr Ramya, who had left CFC more than year ago, said. “A couple from Bangladesh who was treated in his fertility centre without a positive result had come to my clinic and the woman conceived.
This infuriated him and he even tried to tell the couple that I was using unethical ways. Only after that he started looking at me as a threat,” Dr Ramya said.
Dr Ramya also disclosed that a cousin of Thomas, a school dropout from Andhra Pradesh, has been appointed as second in command in the FTC.
“He is used as a bouncer in the CFC.
This cousin, who faces police cases in AP, advises Thomas on various issues, including how to handle doctors who had resigned and unhappy patients,” Ramya added.
Ramya also claimed she knew about death of four persons due to complications developed after treating in CFC centres in Chennai and Puducherry.
