According to weathermen, a fresh trough of low at mean sea level lies over South-West Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast. Further, yet another low pressure area is likely to emerge over the Andaman sea during the next 48 hours and likely to become more marked subsequently. Speaking to DT Next, Dr S Balachandran, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Regional Meteorological Centre, Chnenai, said, “ As RMC already predicted, rain activity in Chennai will slow down for the next few days, while interior districts will record moderate to heavy rains.”
According to a weather blogger, “Going by the radar on Monday, it is likely to be another day of spells of rain amid breaks, with heavy spells at times for most parts of coastal Tamil Nadu. Places along the Western Ghats is expected to remain active with one or two places in line for a spell or two of heavy rains for the next two days,” said a city-based weather blogger. Meanwhile, since Thiruvallur district has been receiving moderate to heavy spells of rains, water level in Chembarambakkam lake and Red Hills lakes has crossed one tmc each. The combined storage of water in four lakes was 3,185 million cubic feet (3.18 tmc) on Monday morning.
