Petitions for and against actor filed
City Police on Monday received three petitions all related to Kamal Haasan. While two petitions were submitted by Siva Sena and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, seeking action against the actor for allegedly ‘referring to Hindus as terrorists’, another petition sought protection for him following death threats from ‘extremists’.

“Siva Sena’s state deputy secretary A Selvam of Anakaputhur stated in his petition that Kamal Haasan, when replying to a question asked by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, said that Hindus can no longer claim that there are no terrorists in their faith. Selvam said that Kamal’s statement has hurt the sentiments of Hindus and created hatred between two sections of people.
“So, action should be initiated against Kamal Haasan under National Security Act,” he stated. He also claimed that the Big Boss show, hosted by Kamal Haasan on a private television channel, was indirectly linked to more people falling prey to Blue Whale game. Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Chennai head AR Ravi too filed a similar petition, in which he alleged that Kamal Haasan is making such comments to popularise his yet-to-be launched party. He said that Kamal Haasan should be barred from making derogatory statements against a particular religion and hurting people’s sentiments.
However, Tamil Nadu Milk Agents Welfare Association, in its petition, has defended Kamal saying there is nothing wrong in the actor’s reply to Pinarayi Vijayan. “The increasing violence unleashed on minorities by Hindu extremists has prompted the actor to make such a comment. However, Hindutva groups are spreading hatred against Kamal Haasan on social media platforms. Pandit Ashok Sharma, national vice-president of Akhil Bharatha Hindu Mahasabha, has gone a step further stating that Kamal Haasan should either be shot dead or hanged since he has no right to live in the ‘sacred’ land. So, police should initiate action against him under National Security Act and provide security to the actor,” the petition said.
