Residents in many areas are coordinating with the governing bodies to ensure that the water is off the roads. “We are in constant touch with the local MLA and the authorities and are on a standby.. Once we have a clear picture we will start helping on ground,” says Balasubramaniyan KL, a resident of Mylapore. He further adds, “Water entered some of the houses in Mylapore and we helped the residents clean that out.”
Members of Korattur Welfare association too got to work from 5 am onwards to help the authorities as water entered the TNHB colony. Syed Hassan secretary of the association says, “We have a canal in the neighbourhood that was breached and the result, water entered the TNHB colony. We called in authorities from the corporation and ensured that the issue is addressed. We got sand bags from a church and placed it prevent the flooding of roads. It was five hours of work and residents helped out with that.”
