Log in to RiskMap.in for flood info
RiskMap.in, a crowd-sourced flood reporting platform for residents to share critical information with each other in real-time, was launched on Wednesday by MIT’s (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Urban Risk Lab and Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG).
Chennai
The online platform already has 200 people using it. Satyarupa Shekhar, Director - Government Outreach and Advocacy, CAG, said, “People affected by flooding and water-logging can add information to the web-based map using their preferred social media channels. The idea is about warning other people about a flooded street they should avoid or to tell civic bodies on which areas to focus,” she said, adding that the pilot programme was purely in public interest.
Satyarupa hopes that eventually, the Chennai Corporation will use it to shorten response time. “We want to work with the Corporation and show them how to use the platform to address civic issues during disaster,” she concluded.
