Elderly woman ends life in city

A 26-year-old man committed suicide at his residence at Nesapakkam in KK Nagar (West) on Monday allegedly over loss in business. 

The deceased, Praveen, got married last month and was staying with his parents at their individual house, said police. After 3 pm, Praveen did not step out of his room. On suspicion, his parents opened his room door and were shocked to see Praveen hanging from the ceiling. They immediately rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared brought dead. KK Nagar police have sent his body to Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered. 

In another incident, a 65-year-old woman set herself ablaze in Otteri reportedly unable to bear stomach ache. The deceased, Veerammal, who lived separately near her son Anthony’s house in SS Puram, had been suffering from stomach ache for over a year. Around midnight, Anthony rushed out on hearing his mother’s cries for help and was shocked to see her engulfed in fire. She was rushed to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, but she succumbed on Tuesday. 

A 29-year-old man allegedly smashed her pregnant wife with an iron rod killing her on the spot and hanged self at his house in Ayanavaram. The couple - Balakrishnan (29) and Anusaya (24) - were in relationship and got married just three months ago despite opposition from both the families. Balakrishnan was a drum beater for death processions and the couple was living in a rented house in Muthamman Koil Street. 

The house owner, who visited their house on Tuesday, was shocked to see Balakrishnan hanging from the ceiling and Anusaya lying in a pool of blood. Ayanavaram police, on receipt of information, rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem. They also retrieved an iron rod with blood stains and a liquor bottle.  Police suspect that Balakrishnan might have hit Anusaya over some quarrel and committed suicide in panic after seeing her dead. Further investigation is on.
