Prepare for monsoon, says Stalin
DMK working president MK Stalin wanted his party MLAs and (erstwhile) local body representatives to partner with people and engage in disaster preparedness ahead of the northeast monsoon.
He advised his party functionaries to identify areas prone to inundation, vulnerable to flash floods and water bodies that have not been de-silted and intimate the same to officials concerned. He also asked them to take stock of the amenities and stability of community halls and corporation schools where people would be accommodated during floods and apprise officials of the same.
Stalin said, it could be easily understood from the city roads flooded by light showers that neither Chennai Corporation nor the government was prepared to handle heavy floods in the city. He said, the government has not received funds from Centre for Cyclone Vardah or December floods damage. City corporation, Chennai Metro Water and Tangedco do not appear to be having coordination meetings to prepare for the NE monsoon, he pointed out.
