    65-year-old dies of chest pain onboard flight to Chennai

    A 65-year-old business consultant, who was on board a flight to Chennai from Kolkata, died due to chest pain on Tuesday. The deceased, Veerabahu of West Mogappair, often shuttles between Chennai and Kolkata for work and was accompanied by his wife Jaya (58) on Tuesday when the incident happened.

    Sources said that Veerabahu developed chest pain nearly an hour after the IndiGo flight took off from Kolkata with 328 passengers at 6.40 am on Tuesday. First-aid was given to him with the help of doctors on board, while the pilot got in touch with Air Traffic Control at Chennai airport and apprised them of the situation for emergency landing.

    The flight, which was scheduled to landed in Chennai at 8.40 am, reached the airport 35 minutes earlier, keeping the other flights on wait. A medical teach which was kept ready at the airport, rushed to the plane soon after it landed to attend Veerabahu. The doctors checked Veerabahu and declared him dead. 

    Later, the body was alighted from the aircraft and sent for post-mortem with the consent of his wife. 

    A case has also been registered. After the preliminary inquiry, police said that the couple had planned to visit Christian Medical College (CMC) Hospital in Vellore for a master health check up on Wednesday. 

    Meanwhile, the flight which was scheduled to leave for Coimbatore around 9.30 am was for fulfilling the protocol of sanitising the aircraft due to a death onboard. The flight later left for Coimbatore at 12.20 pm. 

    Actor Bobby Simha on Tuesday morning posted on Facebook that his family along with few other passengers were left stranded at Chennai airport, as they were not allowed to board the flight to Coimbatore.
