A team of officials from the directorate general of GST intelligence (DGGSTI) on Monday conducted raid at the office of Vishal Film Factory, a cinema production firm owned by actor Vishal who is president of Tamil Film Producers Council and secretary of South Indian Artists’ association, also called Nadigar Sangam.
Sources said that the raid was conducted on Monday afternoon at his Kumaran Nagar office in Vadapalani to find out if there was any evasion of GST by Vishal Film Factory.Â
The DGGSTI is a central government wing supposed to check possible evasion of by businessmen.Â
Vishal’s production house so far produced six films including Kathakali, Naan Sigappu Manithan.
It may be noted that Vishal had accused BJP leader H Raja of advocating piracy by watching the movie online, a charge rejected by latter.
Meanwhile, a press release from the DGGSTI Chennai zonal unit clarified that the DGGSTI officers have not conducted any such search operation at the house of Vishal. PVK Rajasekhar, joint director, DGGSTI in a signed press release, claimed that news about searches in Vishal's office is factually incorrect and false. Â
However Vishal's office staff had told the reporters that the team which came in vehicle TN 18 AJ 4621 (with 'govt' sticker on it) had claimed that they were from the GST intelligence and had even showed identity card.Â
