Smuggling of red sanders worth Rs 3.2 crore foiled
DRI sleuths of Chennai Zonal Unit on Friday foiled an attempt to smuggle red sanders via sea from Chennai Port to Malaysia and seized a container full of logs, a release stated.

Based on the specific inputs that a container was replaced with red sanders en route to Chennai Port it was cleared, DRI sleuths brought back the vehicle to the freight station. During the search, they found red sanders weighing 8.1 metric tonne hidden inside the container.Â
The container was found to be affixed with fabricated duplicate seals and both the container and logs were seized. The value of the seized red sanders is estimated to be Rs 3.2 crore.
