Biology class with 1,049 kids sets Guinness Record
On the second day of the India International Science Festival (IISF) on Anna University campus in Chennai, a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Biology Lesson was created. Nearly, 1,049 students took part in the record breaking session on Saturday.

Inaugurating the Largest Biology Lesson, Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Science Dr Harsh Vardhan said that it was the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage and promote science and the Centre has launched many flagship programmes in this regard. He also invoked Indian Physicist CV Raman and how he won the Nobel prize, which was a first by any Indian.Â
The world record created at the IISF, Chennai 2017, had students from Class 9 and Class 10 participating in the biology lesson delivered by Lakshmi Prabhu from Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School.Â
A live demonstration on the process of isolation of DNA from Papaya fruit was also part of the programme. Students from 20 local schools set the record.Â
The programme was also attended by Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Dr M N Rajeevan, Girish Kumar from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and Dr R Venkatesan, Head of National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT).
