Labourer killed over salary row near Virugambakkam

Trouble arose when a group of men had gathered on Bali Amman Koil Street to settle their payment. A quarrel ensued between Dhanashekar (38) of Kolathur and Shankar (40) of Dadhakuppam, during which the former in a fit of rage allegedly slashed the latter’s neck. 

Sankar was taken to Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital and subsequently shifted to RGGGH. According to the hospital sources, his condition is stated to be serious. Police have registered a case and arrested Dhanasekar. Further investigation is on. 

A 26-year-old man was murdered by his own friends in Vyasarpadi as he allegedly pledged one of their bikes and spent the money. While police have arrested three youngsters, the hunt is on for three more persons.

The deceased, Suresh, who stepped out on Thursday night, did not return home till Friday morning and was subsequently found dead with multiple injuries all over the body in the locality. 

After passers-by noticed the body and alerted police, they registered a case and sent the body to Stanley Hospital for post-mortem. Police nabbed the three accused — Vallarasu, Gopi and Saranraj — based on the CCTV footage retrieved from the locality. Yuvaraj, Marudhavanan and Sanjay are still absconding. 

After preliminary inquiry, police said that the accused who are Suresh’s friends confessed to committing the crime. They allegedly murdered him since he pledged Yuvaraj’s bike and spent the money. 

Suresh, son of an MTC driver Ganesan, has an attempt-to-murder case pending against him, though the arrested have no criminal history, said police sources. On Saturday, a few men were detained on suspicion for questioning but they were not arrested till late night.
