Chennai: Woman catches phone snatchers after a week

Police said Anbarasi (22), an employee of Sutherland, was relieved of her mobile worth Rs 30,000 by an unidentified duo at Chormepet on the night of September 20 while she was walking back home at Bharathipuram from GST Road. The next day she walked to the Chitlapakkam police and informed that some unidentified persons had snatched her mobile phone.

Though Anbarasi did not have much hope of getting back the phone, she strongly remembered the face of the snatchers.

A week later, on Tuesday night, while Anbarasi was returning home with her kin from GST Road on a bike, she spotted a duo riding on a two-wheeler in the opposite direction and recollected that those were the two persons who had snatched her phone on September 20.

On being alerted by Anbarasi, her relative started chasing the duo. Sensing that they were being tailed by the techie and her relative, the duo tried to escape on the bike.

However, Anbarasi managed to catch the duo with the help of some passers-by near the railway gate on Radha Nagar Main Road at Chromepet as it was closed for trains.

Later, they were handed over to Pallikaranai police, who, after preliminary inquiry said that the accused were identified as- Sivasankaran (25) of Tambaram and Jaffer (25) of Old Pallavaram.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the duo worked as electricians during day time and indulged in chain and mobile phone snatching acts at night.

The duo were involved various mobile phone snatching cases in the locality. They have allegedly admitted having snatched Anbarasi’s phone, police said. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
