A special team of Anna Nagar police led by inspector Selvakumar was on the hunt for a man in connection with a two-wheeler theft. They had also distributed the photo of the suspect taken from CCTV footage in the locality to several police stations in the city.

Based on an alert, the accused identified as K Devaraj of Ashok Nagar was arrested recently.

During the interrogation, it was found out that Devaraj indulged in a series of bike thefts in the last four months in localities such as Besant Nagar, Anna Nagar, Taramani and sold them in Arcot, Polur and Tiruvannamalai.

Working on his inputs, a team visited the specific addresses in the above towns and retrieved 30 stolen bikes including TVS Wego, Scooty Pep, Hero Splendor Plus, Honda Shine, TVS Apache and Pulsar. The bikes were brought to Chennai in a lorry. The bikes are now kept at Anna Nagar police station. Though Devaraj was seen stealing bikes alone in CCTV footage, police are grilling him to find out how he sold the vehicles outside the city limits and whether there was anyone else associated with him, said sources in the police department.
