2 boys, youth drown in sea off Marina
Two school children and a college student drowned in the sea off Marina on Sunday.

Dhanush Kumar (14) and Akashraj (15) — cousins from Kovilambakkam had come to Marina beach to play. Dhanush Kumar’s father Perumal and Akashraj’s father Sudhakar had accompanied them.Â
While they were swimming behind the MGR memorial, they were pulled into the sea by a huge wave. Police said that the rescue attempt by Sudhakar and others went vain. Both their bodies, which were washed ashore on late Monday, were sent for post-mortem to Stanley Hospital, said police officials.
In another incident, M Sakthivel, a student of Guru Nanak College, Velachery, and a resident of Kalasapakkam in Tiruvannamalai district too drowned in the sea off Marina on Sunday. Sakthivel had come with his friends to Marina. Police are searching for his body with the help of fishermen. Two cases under Section 174 of the IPC have been registered by Anna Square police. Despite the efforts by police, the drownings of people in Marina couldn’t be controlled with several cases reported on a regular basis.
Three weeks ago, two schoolboys — S Kishore (15) of Velachery and V Deepak (15) of Little Mount, drowned off Marina when they went to wash their legs after playing football on the beach. On July 11, two men — Arulselvan from Perambalur district and Saravanan (21) were pulled into the sea. While Saravanan was rescued by friends, Arulselvan’s body was washed ashore a day later.
