    OTA passing out parade epitomises martial prowess

    The passing out parade of the cadets of the Officers Training Academy (OTA) was held on Friday. The parade was a spectacular combination of equitation, gymnastics, paramotoring and parasailing, dog show and a performance by the military band.

    The combined display marked the culmination of the club and adventure training at the OTA, showcasing the expertise of the officer cadets and the Indian Army display teams. Regimental teams too participated.

    Equestrian proficiency is a mandatory part of training and a club activity at the OTA, since horse riding epitomises martial prowess and requires courage and boldness. In the equestrian display, officer cadets showcased their horse riding skills as well as tent pegging, Indian file and show jumping.

    There was also a gymnastic showcase, featuring the ‘High Horse’, an artistic gymnastic apparatus on which the gymnasts perform their vaulting skills. This was first introduced in the Indian Army in July 1946, by the Physical Training School, then located in Ambala. This display by the instructors and officer cadets of OTA, Chennai-featured feats such as Through Vault, Astride Vault, Fly Dive and Ring Fire Dive. The extravaganza also featured the renowned paramotor display team of PRTC Bangalore. There was also a parasailing display at the OTA, which requires skill and practice.

    The combined display also featured an enthralling dog show by Remount & Veterinary Corps Centre & College, Meerut. The showcase featured intricate demonstrations such as Lotus Formation, Action Drill and Obedience Show, by specially trained Army canines. The show featured a performance by the military band, which is an integral part of the armed forces. Martial tunes have motivated soldiers. Pipe bands from ASC Centre, Bangalore and 25 MADRAS, with their team of enthusiastic pipers and drummers, put up a scintillating show.
