NEET: 5 Kerala applicants given clean chit
In a major setback to those who created a stir in Tamil Nadu Medical Counselling claiming forgery by students from Kerala, the Central Crime Branch gave a clean chit to five of them on Tuesday, citing the rules given in the counselling prospectus issued to the students by the state government.

Speaking to DTNEXT, a senior police official said, “It has been clearly mentioned in the prospectus that those who have studied at least five years in Tamil Nadu from Class 8 to 12 will be eligible to apply for counselling in the state quota without producing a nativity certificate.”
Of the five students, two of them — one from Chennai and another from Madurai — have got medical seats under such criteria, the officials added. The other three students including a girl have studied up to Class 10 in Tamil Nadu and continued their education in Kerala. “They have produced a nativity certificate obtained from the revenue department as per guidelines,” said the officials.
However, two of them have reportedly opted out of counselling for reasons unknown while one student is said to have got a seat under the all-India quota. Officials said that parents of the students have lived in the state for over 20 years and added the inquiry was done over phone. They also said that the remaining four students will be inquired soon.
They said they will look into the allegation of Christian students who have applied under sections MBC/ DNC Hindu section. About the dual application in two states, the board should clarify if it is a violation, they said.
Last week, Y Amjad Ali of Tindivanam had lodged a complaint with Chennai Commissioner of Police AK Viswanathan that nine candidates featuring in the MBBS and BDS merit list had submitted nativity certificates for counselling in Tamil Nadu.
